Born in Tokyo, Japan, Naomi Maki grew up in a musical surrounding. Her father Toru Maki is a tenor singer and a painter. Her mother Noriko Maki was a pianist and poet. Naomi Maki graduated from the Music Conservatoire of Shobi in Tokyo with a degree in composition. She studied Jazz piano and Hammond Organ under Yuri Tashiro also, studied Kiyomoto (one of the Japanese traditional singing forms, a type of music used in Kabuki) under the living national treasure, Kiyomoto Seiju-Dayu in Tokyo. From 1998 to 2004 she studied Early Music (Elizabethan Music) under the leading tenor, Nigel Rogers in London. Since 2011, she is studying Early Christian Antiphon Singing (4C-15C) under Iegor Reznikoff at the master class of Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow. Together with her musical career, Naomi Maki has been an enthusiastic abstract painter for many years. She held the exhibition in Japan, U.K., South Korea and Moscow.
